还记得疫情期间,学校鼓励并组织学生通过视频分享自己在书中的所感所悟所得。视频中,王墨一给我们介绍了《What If》这本书,谈起这本书时他眼里尽是兴奋,像是宁静的湖面引起了一圈又一圈的涟漪。“米兰道尔·门罗的《What If》带给我们的不仅仅只是寻常视角的科普,更多的是通过幽默的风格,给予我们所需和所知,鼓励我们从知识中获取快乐。“ 王墨一说到,读完这本书后,我感觉自己变得更开朗了!

During the epidemic, ISA Liwan encouraged and organized students to share their feelings and insights from the book through a video. In the video, Tony introduces the book What If to us, and he was so excited when talking about the book, like a quiet lake causing ripples after ripples. “Randall Munroe's What If brings us not only the science from an unusual perspective, but also gives us what we need and encourages us to get pleasure from the knowledge.” Tony said, after reading this book, I feel myself become more cheerful!







Books are the mirrors of the soul, to guide us to move forward.

王墨一是爱莎荔湾国内中学部的一名七年级学生。当谈及兴趣爱好时,他提到,平时特别喜欢看书,时常捧起一本书便是一朝。其中最为感兴趣的属科幻题材类小说, “阿西莫夫,著名的科幻小说作家、科普作家、文学评论家,他的作品除了科幻,还涵盖了一些很多引人遐思的东西,在他的一些著作里就提及了社会学、心理学、反对伪科学等等。”

Tony is a seventh-grade student at ISA Liwan Middle School (National pathway). When talking about his hobbies, he mentions that he likes to read books, and often picks up a book for a while. “Asimov, a famous science fiction writer, popular science writer, and literary critic, his works cover a lot of thought-provoking things besides science fiction, including sociology, psychology, opposition to pseudoscience, and so on.”said Tony.

千里之行,始于足下。王墨一是在一年级的时候开始接触原著书籍的,《纳尼亚传奇》是他读的第一本原文小说。“这本书虽然褒贬不一,但对我而言还是起到了积极的启发作用,我还发现作者在这本书里的表达方式是多样的,而且从这本书里我察觉到了很多的文化交流、思想碰撞。” 他感叹道:“从那时我就发现,原来世界是如此多元的。能让我切身感受到多元文化融合、世界缤纷的还有爱莎荔湾。我们学校的图书馆藏书很丰富,我能在这里找到很多不同种类的原文书籍。”

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Tony started to read original books when he was in first grade, and "The Chronicles of Narnia" was the first original novel he read. "Although the book had mixed reviews, it still served as a positive inspiration for me. I also found that the author's expressions in this book were diverse, and I detected a lot of cultural exchange and collision of ideas from this book." He exclaims, "From then on I realized that the world is so diverse. I also felt the fusion of cultures and the colorfulness of the world in ISA Liwan. Our school library has a rich collection of books, and I can find many different kinds of original books here."

读书破万卷,下笔如有神。在分享学习经验时,墨一提到“比起闭门造车,我们更要注重日常的积累”。幼儿园时期,在父母的影响下,墨一已开始接触多语言环境,自幼便对英语耳濡目染,以至于到了六年级考取雅思7分也是水到渠成的事情。墨一的多语言成长史,正与爱莎的多语言环境和培养目标不谋而合。他直言,在爱莎荔湾,除了能保持中英双语的学习,让自己成为自信的中英交流者,更有机会学习第二外语。他就在学校选修了法语,未来,法语也许会成为他申请大学的“利器”!

Read wide, and you will wisely write. When sharing his learning experience, Tony said, "We should pay more attention to daily accumulation.” In early years, under the influence of his parents, Tony began to immersed in a multilingual environment since he was a little boy, so that by the sixth grade, he was able to get an IELTS score of 7. Tony's multilingual growth history coincides with the multilingual environment and training goals of ISA. He said, at ISA Liwan, in addition to maintaining his bilingualism and becoming a confident communicator between Chinese and English, he has the opportunity to learn a second foreign language. He took French as an elective at the school, and in the future, French may become a "powerful tool" for his university applications!

王墨一的教师奚旺老师告诉我们,国内中学部不仅提供了扎实的国家课程,还有科技创新、棒球、等多样化的辅助拓展项目,学业突出的王墨一在巩固功课之余还和小伙伴一起参与了像辩论社这样的学校和学科的各项活动。敢于表现自己,锻炼自己。这正是IB培养目标中勇于尝试和积极探究的特质。

Ms. Xi Wang, the teacher of Tony, told us that the school not only provides a solid national curriculum, but also diversified co-curriculum activities such as science and technology innovation, baseball, etc. Tony,  who excels in academics, also participates in various subject activities like debate club with his buddies while consolidating his homework. Dare to express and exercise are the qualities that the IB aims to cultivate, such as the willingness to experiment and actively explore.

在提及平衡学业与兴趣爱好,是否会有较大压力时,王墨一跟我们分享:因为是小班教学,老师们能够关注到我们每一位同学。而且我们学校有导师制,我的导师特别关照我。特别是在我压力比较大需要排解时,老师会帮助我合理规划学业与兴趣培养。平时在课堂上也能够随机应变,学习和兴趣都能得到平衡发展,我觉得这样对自己各方面的发展都有极大帮助。


初中阶段,学生逐渐进入成长的关键时期——“青春期”,因此,除了学术,学生心智发展也至关重要。奚旺老师表示,通过全方位的导师制,我们会在日常的教学中密切关注学生的心理状况,缓解学生各方面压力,鼓励学生建立正确的交友观,引领学生建立身份自信。

When mentioning whether it is more stressful to balance academics and hobbies, Tony shared with us: Because of the small class size, the teachers are able to pay attention to each students. Also, our school has a tutor system, and my tutor takes good care of me. Especially when I need to relieve my stress, my tutor will help me plan my studies and interests. I feel that it would help me to develop in all aspects of my life.


In middle school, students gradually enter a critical period of growth - "adolescence", therefore, in addition to academics, students' mental development is also crucial. Ms Xi Wang said that through a comprehensive mentor programme, we will pay close attention to students' psychological conditions in daily teaching, relieve students' stress in all aspects, encourage students to establish a correct view of friendship, and cultivate students to be confident independent learners who have a love for life-long learning.

爱莎重视每位孩子的个性发展。此前,王墨一和弟弟Tommy参与了学校的冬令营。学校四人间的公寓式寄宿环境和每天丰富的世界美食让两兄弟极为喜欢。Tommy还参演了小学部的戏剧。当天的表演在英式戏剧训练和表演专用的黑匣子剧场进行,Tommy在这次表演中大放异彩,台下掌声雷动。Tommy收获了满满成就。他还悄悄给音乐老师Sharon塞了一个小纸条,告诉老师自己希望未来能够一直跟着Sharon老师学习声乐。懂得争取自己所爱,这是实践式教学的力量。

ISA values the development of each child's personality. Previously, Tony and his brother Tommy participated in the school's winter camp. Tommy also participated in the elementary school drama show. Tommy also slipped a little note to his music teacher, Ms. Sharon, telling her that he wanted to study music with her in the future. Knowing how to fight for what you enjoy is the power of hands-on teaching.
