春天,踏着轻盈的脚步来了。你看那莺飞草长,燕子北归,小麦拔节,万物竞生!春天来了!岸柳青青,桃花灼灼,一派生机,保护好我们的绿色家园,华美学子应当尽自己的一份力量。


华美学校留学生部(ISD)学生从三月开始进入了环保月,学生们在老师的指导下通过国际植树节-环保的主题,进行跨学科学习,为学生编织出一张全学科融会贯通的知识网,同时中文、英文双语并行,全面提升学科语言能力。


Students from the International Student Division (ISD) of Huamei International School started to celebrate the environmental month from March. Under the guidance of their teacher, students started cross-curriculum projects, based on an environmental theme, to enhance their language skills and content knowledge.


关于国际植树节

植树节由J. Sterling Morton一名美国的新闻工作者于1871年发起,他留下了著名的一句。“其他节日都是纪念过去,植树节却是为了未来”。据联合国统计,现在世界上已有50多个国家设立了植树节。由于各国国情和地理位置不同,植树节在各国的称呼与时间也不不同,如日本称为“树木节”和“绿化周”;冰岛称为“学生植树日”;印度称为“全国植树节”。


Arbor Day was first proposed in the 19th century by, an American journalist and politician. He said "Other holidays repose upon the past; Arbor Day proposes for the future." According to the United Nations, more than 50 countries in the world have set up Arbor Day. Arbor Day is called different lying in different countries due to national circumstances and geographical locations, such as Japan's "Tree Day" and "Greening Week", Iceland's "Student Tree Planting Day", India's National Tree Planting Day. The time of Arbor Day also varies in different countries.

Chinese中文-绿色的故事


对外汉语课上,孩子们学习了中国植树节的来历,学习了中国的植树节与我国历史上的一位名人孙中山息息相关,他是中国近代史上,最早倡导植树造林的政治家。除此之外,孩子们进行了环保相关中文词汇的学习,通过学习中国植树节的由来、意义,历史上与植树节相关的重要人物,并最终用手抄报的方式,讲述属于自己的绿色故事。


In the Chinese language class, students learned that The Arbor Day in China is closely related to a famous person in the history, Sun Yat-sen, who was the first politician in China's modern history to advocate afforestation. Students also focused on the Chinese vocabulary related to environmental protection through learning the origin and significance of Chinese Arbor Day, the history of important people associated with it, and finally they come up with their own story about “Me and Arbor day”.



English 英文-学科词汇与语言能力的储备


In English classes, students learned tree-related terms and sentence patterns.  They applied also applied the language to other subjects.



Science科学-语言的应用与科学研究素养的培养


来自美国的科学课老师带着学生们探究植物的生长周期,植物的构成,为什么植物是绿色的等等有趣的课题。最后学生们自行选择一种自己喜欢的植物,运用学习到了的知识进行探究,并将成果用poster展示出来。


Science teachers from the United States shared interesting topics with their students.  They explored the growth cycle and composition of plants, why plants are green, and so on. The students chose their favorite plant, using the knowledge learned to investigate it.  Their final project was to design and present their own poster.



Global Issues国际理解-全球化思维与世界公民意识


留学生部国际理解课程,以联合国发布的人类可持续发展的17个目标为基本大纲,学生们从自己的身边的例子入手,了解森林面积减少对于环境、人类的影响甚至我们日常生活的影响,将人类与地球的关系这个大的课题的探究进行了分解与具体化。除了“知”,孩子们更需要自己得出“怎么做”,这是华美学校一直以来倡导的“知行合一”,更是与联合国国际公民培养的最终目标不谋而合。


The curriculum of Global Issues is a design based on the United Nations outline of 17 goals for sustainable human development.  Students start with an example of their daily activity to understand the impact of deforestation on the environment, mankind, and our daily lives. In addition to "knowing," students need to complete their own “action plan”. This is what Huamei school has been advocating, "Combining knowing and doing," which is the ultimate development goal of a Global citizen.



联合国17个目标


十年树木,百年树人,在这个绿色的三月,愿留学生部的这一棵棵“小树”与我们所热爱的这颗星球一样,生长繁衍生生不息。


In this “Green March," we hope the students of ISD will grow as fast as this planet we love.
